Cinnamon tea is very easy to make, yet tastes better than you would ever imagine for such a simple drink! This magical spice takes on a whole other flavor dimension when brewed as a delicious caffeine-free tea that just happens to have many health-fortifying benefits, too. I hope you enjoy it!

How Do You Make Cinnamon Tea?

    1. To make cinnamon tea, start by boiling some water on the stove in a small saucepan, and then add some cinnamon sticks to the water.
    2. Reduce all to a simmer and simmer for 15 minutes before turning off the heat.
    3. Let the tea sit for 5 minutes before pouring it into mugs.
    4. Enjoy!

    Cinnamon Tea Benefits

    • Cinnamon contains coumarin, which is a natural blood thinner. It can be helpful in small amounts, but in excess can aggravate some preexisting conditions, so be certain to consult a healthcare professional if need be.
    • Cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants.
    • Cinnamon has been shown to be a useful ally in reducing inflammation throughout the body.
    • Cinnamon has been shown to lower blood sugar levels, which can be useful for those who have diabetes or need to lower their insulin resistance.
    • Cinnamon has antibacterial properties and antimicrobial properties which can be useful for overall oral health, preventing tooth decay, bad breath, and the proliferaiton of bacteria, as well as giving the immune system a boost.
    • Cinnamon has been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol and help promote healthy cholesterol levels in preliminary studies.
    • Cinnamon may help lower blood pressure and prevent heart disease.
    • Recent studies have shown promising evidence that cinnamon can reduce a protein called Tau, which has been linked to Alzheimer's disease and other diseases that reduce brain function.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which Type of Cinnamon is Best?

This recipe works well with both cassia cinnamon and Ceylon cinnamon sticks. Cassia is the more common form of cinnamon, and is also sweeter and stronger in flavor, making it my first preference.

How Much Cinnamon Tea Can I Drink a Day?

This will depend on your particular needs. If you have concerns about preexisting conditions please consult a healthcare professional before consuming. Otherwise, I would not advise not drinking more than one cup a day, unless using as a specific natural remedy for something.

Can I Use Ground Cinnamon to Make Cinnamon Tea Instead?

Yes. If you do not have cinnamon sticks, you can replace them with 3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon powder instead.

    Variations

    • Stir in a teaspoon of raw honey or maple syrup for a sweeter taste.
    • Let the cinnamon tea cool before pouring over ice for an iced cinnamon tea.
    • Add a black tea bag during the 5 minutes of resting time for a caffeinated cinnamon tea brew.
    • Make this cinnamon tea latte-style by stirring in a tablespoon of coconut sugar and a splash of your favorite milk.

    Fun Fact

Cinnamon tea isn't tea in the technical sense. Did you know that the only true tea is a tea made with the leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant? Cinnamon tea is technically what's called a tisane, aka an herbal infusion.

We are in Washington where it's cold and rainy and my husband and I are both fighting colds. I made this for us today and I swear it is the best-tasting thing I've had since I started feeling poorly. It absolutely hit the spot and was exactly what we needed. Thank you so much!
