The combination of natural, nontoxic butter and oils makes for silky smooth skin, while the fragrance of orange and clove combined makes one feel they are being wrapped in a blanket of warm comfort. Pure joy!

Why You Will Love This DIY

    • This whipped body butter is super easy to make.
    • Homemade body butter makes the perfect self-care treat or a thoughtful gift for others.
    • This DIY body butter relieves dry skin and makes it soft and smooth.
    • Making your own natural skincare products at home, like this body butter, ensures you are avoiding toxic ingredients and allows you to customize to suit your own needs.
    • The texture and consistency are delightfully thick and creamy.
    • The natural ingredients used in this recipe can skin soothe irritations such as eczema, rough knees or elbows, and body acne, and even minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
    • This body butter is naturally rich in essential fatty acids.

    Ingredients

Shea butter: Shea butter has natural anti-inflammatory properties, making it a soothing choice for a body butter recipe. If you do not have shea butter, mango butter makes a great alternative.

Coconut oil: Unrefined virgin coconut oil is used as the carrier oil in this recipe which helps it get a soft whipped consistency. You can use the refined variety, but unrefined offers more skin health benefits. If you would prefer not to use coconut oil, you can use jojoba oil or sweet almond oil instead.

Cocoa butter: Cocoa butter is rich in fatty acids and really helps lock in moisture. If you do not have cocoa butter, you can use more shea butter or mango butter in its place.

Clove essential oil: Clove essential oil adds all of the warm and comforting tones of the scent of this whipped body butter.

Sweet orange essential oil: Sweet orange oil adds a nice sweet tone that balances the clove oil.

Note: Once you get this base recipe down pat, you can make it your own by adding your own favorite essential oil blend. Peppermint essential oil, lavender essential oil, bergamot essential oil, and frankincense essential oil are some of my other favorites to use in homemade body butter recipes.

    1. In a double boiler over medium heat, add the shea butter, coconut oil, and cocoa butter. Melt everything until you have a liquid oil, stirring occasionally.
    2. Turn off the heat, then stir in the essential oils.
    3. Immediately place the mixture into the fridge to set and harden, for at least one hour.
    4. Once the mixture has been set, remove it from the fridge and then blend using a stand mixer, hand mixer, or immersion blender, until all is smooth and creamy.
    5. Use the whipped body butter right away or keep it stored in a closed container, like a jar or tin, in a cool place away from sunlight for up to six months.

    Top Tip

If you would like this body butter to store longer than 6 months, you can add a few drops of vitamin E oil before whipping, which acts as a natural preservative and encourages a long shelf life.
