Easy Homemade Tinted Lip Balm Recipe

Moisturizing lip balm with a touch of natural color (thanks to beet powder!) and a healthy dose of shine could not be easier or more fun to make! Once you get this recipe downpat, you can experiment with other natural food-based powders to create your own favorite tints.

  • In a double boiler* over medium heat, add the jojoba oil, raw honey, beeswax, coconut oil, sifted beet powder and vitamin E oil.
  • Whisk frequently until the mixture has liquified (about 5 minutes) and the ingredients are smoothly combined (you really want everything to melt together). Stir in the peppermint essential oil, if using, then carefully pour the mixture into lip balm tubes or tins (before it has a chance to solidify).
  • Let the lip balm sit uncovered until cool and hardened (about 1 hour).
  • Once cooled, place the caps or lids on your, then keep them stored in a cool place for up to 6 months.

Notes

* You can create a makeshift double boiler by placing a stainless steel or glass bowl over a pot of boiling water.
