    Ingredient Notes

Carrier Oil and Dried Flowers Infusion: This combination nourishes the skin while incorporating the flowers’ therapeutic and soothing properties.

    • Carrier oils include sweet almond oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, and jojoba oil.
    • My choice of dried flowers are calendula flowers (anti-inflammatory and skin healing), rose petals (nourishing and rejuvenating), and lavender (relaxation and skin repair).

Shea Butter: Aids in providing hydration to the skin. It also gives the salve a creamy texture and a spreadable consistency.

Beeswax: Acts as a thickening agent to the salve while helping soothe the skin. You can use either grated or pellet form; yellow or white.

Floral Essential Oils: Optional; they give the hand salve a lovely, natural fragrance.

    •  Rose, geranium, or lavender essential oil is perfect for this recipe.

How To Make This Hand Salve Recipe

    1. To infuse the oil, add about two tablespoons each of dried calendula, rose, and lavender to a clean glass jar. Pour in ¾ cup of your preferred carrier oil, seal tightly, and store in a warm, dark place for two weeks, shaking gently every few days. Once infused, strain out the flowers using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
    2. Melt the infused oil, shea butter, and beeswax in a double boiler over simmering water, stirring occasionally until fully melted.
    3. Remove from heat and stir in essential oils, if using.
    4. Pour into tins or jars and let cool until solid.

    How To Use Hand Salve

Wash and dry your hands, then use your fingers or an applicator to scoop a small amount of the salve. Rub it between your palms to warm and soften it before applying the salve to your hands and elsewhere in your body. Use as needed.

    Top Tips

    • Add more beeswax if you want a firmer salve or more carrier oil if you want a softer texture.
    • Use pesticide-free dried flowers to avoid introducing chemicals to your salve.

    Storage

Keep the hand salve container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. When stored properly, it may last for a year.

However, if your hand salve starts smelling rancid, discard it immediately.
