My lavender solid perfume is a simple melt-and-pour recipe made with just three ingredients: beeswax, jojoba oil, and lavender essential oil. It's a natural alternative to spray perfume, no alcohol to dry out your skin, nothing to spill in your bag, and small enough to carry through airport security without a second look. The whole process takes about five minutes of hands-on time.

Lavender is my all-time favorite scent. I've been dabbing lavender oil straight onto my wrists for about 15 years now, but it never lasts as long as I want it to. This solid perfume was my way of getting the same scent I've worn for over a decade, just in a version that sticks around longer and travels easier than a bottle of oil. It's also turned into one of my favorite things to give as a gift, especially packaged in a small tin.

What You'll Need
- 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets (white or yellow)
- 2 tablespoons jojoba oil or sweet almond oil
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
You'll also need a small tin or empty perfume compact to pour it into once it's mixed.

How to Make Lavender Solid Perfume

Add the beeswax pellets and jojoba oil to a double boiler over gently simmering water, or a microwave-safe bowl. If using the stovetop, melt slowly, stirring occasionally, until fully liquid and clear. If using the microwave, heat in 20-second bursts, stirring between each one, until fully melted, wax can scorch fast if left too long, so short bursts matter more than speed here.
Take the pan off the heat before you add the lavender essential oil. Essential oils are volatile, meaning heat burns off their scent, so stirring it in after the wax has melted (not while it's still over the burner) keeps the fragrance from fading before the perfume even sets.

Pour the mixture into your tin or compact right away, while it's still liquid. It starts to set fast once it's off the heat.

Let it sit undisturbed until it's fully hardened. This usually takes about an hour at room temperature, or you can speed it up by setting it in the fridge for 15 to 20 minutes. Once it's solid, it's ready to use, just warm a fingertip against it and dab it onto pulse points the way you would a balm.

How to Store It and How Long It Lasts
Keep it in a cool spot out of direct sunlight, the same way you'd store a lip balm or salve. Jojoba oil is naturally shelf-stable, so a batch made this way typically holds its scent and texture well for 6 to 12 months.

Can I use a different oil?
Sweet almond oil works as a straight swap for the jojoba oil if that's what you have on hand. Both are light, absorb well, and won't compete with the lavender scent.
Do I need a double boiler?
A heatproof bowl set over a small pot of simmering water works the same way if you don't have a dedicated double boiler. The point is gentle, indirect heat so the beeswax doesn't scorch.
Can I use a different essential oil instead of lavender?
Yes, the ratio here (1 tablespoon wax to 2 tablespoons oil to 15 drops essential oil) works with most single essential oils or a blend, as long as you keep the total around 15 drops.
Is beeswax necessary, or can I make this vegan?
Candelilla wax is a common vegan substitute for beeswax in balms and solid perfumes. It's firmer than beeswax, so start with slightly less (closer to 2 teaspoons instead of a full tablespoon) and adjust from there.
